Q&A - I need a Marriage Celebrant and MC - can I book you for both?

Absolutely you can!

I get asked a lot what a professional MC does at a wedding, and the answer is… it depends on the wedding. It is however always a mix of entertainment and organisation.

Ahead of your wedding I’ll help you coordinate the runsheet, advise on how much time is needed for each part and work with your other suppliers to make sure everyone has enough time scheduled. I’ll chat with you about who you might like to have speak at your wedding (if you’re doing speeches) and what you can do instead if you’re not keen on them. We’ll chat about whether you’d like to do a first dance, any games you’d like to play, and go through some warm ups that can work well with your friends and family. We’ll talk to you about what stress points you might have and how I can help you navigate them (keeping drunk uncles away microphones is a common one).

I’ll even help you write your speech.

On the day I’ll make sure that I’m your first point of contact for any questions from the venue staff, your other vendors, and your friends and family ensuring that you get to glide through your reception. I’ll also give lots of notice to anyone involved in the reception that they’re about to be needed and top up any glasses needed for giving a speech or a toast.

At the end of the day hiring an MC is not a legal requirement. If you have the spare cash for it though then it’s a wonderful extra to have that will help mean you don’t have to deal with any potential problems that arise on the day.
