Phuong and David - a day of true delight across three Iconic Melbourne venues!
Phuong and David… a wedding (and love) for the ages
It’s safe to say that Phuong and David knew exactly what they were doing when they planned their wedding. They hired vendors - inlcuding the always admired but never replicated Jackson Grant - that they instantly connected with and trusted, designed the day for maximum guest fun, and then served looks that blended fashion with fabulous comfort. No wonder their wedding was featured in Fashion Journal….
As their Celebrant and MC I was thrilled to help them structure a day across defined elements. David and Phuong wanted the formality and beauty of a wedding, paired with the intimacy of the dinner parties they regularly host for friends, with a down and dirty after party focusing on excellent beats that ran late into the night. And so this was the itinerary they decided on…
12pm – 4pm. Welcome Lunch and legal ceremony at Siglo
4pm – 6pm. Pre-Ceremony Drinks at fortyfivedownstairs at Fitzroy Gardens (which ended up being moved due to Melbournes fantastic weather with just 24 hours notice)
6pm – 7pm. Ceremony at The Conservatory at Fitzroy Gardens
7pm – 1am. After party at Paradise Alley
The in between moments were captured delightfully by the one and only Jackson Grant, who’s individual and genuine one of a kind style appealed to Phuong and David’s keen eyes (they’re both legends within Australia’s design and fashion industry). Shantan Ichiban was their incredible DJ for the after party.
Lunch.
We started with lunch (because who doesn’t love lunch??) and decided to start the day with the legal aspects of the ceremony just the five of us. This meant that they didn’t have to worry about what they drank during the day and could still be legally wed. It also address the formality of the day immediately and settled some nerves (theirs and mine too). Lunch was at Siglo - an all time favourite venue of mine run by Spring St Events - and included memorable speeches. Maybe most notably by Phoung’s dad who radiated happiness and was so visibly proud of all that his son has achieved in life and in finding the man of his dreams.
Pre ceremony drinks.
This is where things could have gone pear shaped if it wasn’t for the efforts of Claire from Black Finn Weddings. Melbourne’s weather proved once more to be predictable only in it’s lack of predictability and 24 (maybe 48 hours?) before the ceremony gale winds were forecasted - and eventuated - for Melbourne. We moved the drinks part of the day inside to FortyFiveDownstairs, a gorgeous gallery space half way between lunch and the ceremony.
The ceremony.
And then the ceremony happened… Held inside at The Conservatory in Fitzroy Gardens tears were shed, laughter was had and the vibes were immense. Even the flowers knew they were witnessing something special that day. Seeing two people share their vows will always be special, but this day had wedding day magic sprinkled all over it and never so much as when they said I do to a future together.
The After Party.
And finally it was time to let loose. Shantan Ichiban was in charge of the decks and while their guests started on Margarita’s and ended up in Ubers much, much later, no one could deny that they’d been a part of magic that day.
